What is the Canyon Coaster Like?

Loading and Operating the Canyon Coaster

Once it is your turn in line to load you will be called forward, have your ticket scanned, and given the operating and safety instructions for the ride.

 

Please leave backpacks and hats in car as you may lose them on the ride. It is very common to lose your hat on this ride.

Carts are not to stop or come into contact while on the track at any time.

 

How do I get to the Canyon Coaster?

The Canyon Coaster is located at the upper lodge at Canyon Ski Resort, in Red Deer Alberta.

When you arrive at Canyon Ski Resort’s main gate, you will see signage instructing you to take the immediate left fork toward the Coasters parking lot. You do not drive down the hill. There is no public access on the lower road leading to the main lodge as it is a privately rented event hall. There is no public river access.

Who can ride on the Canyon Coaster?

Maximum weight capacity per cart is 260lbs.

Age

To Ride Alone: Must be 8 years of age or older, and 4′ 1″ or taller to ride alone.

To Ride with a Passenger: Minimum of 16 years of age to ride with a passenger in the cart.

Passenger Rules: Passengers must be 3 to 12 years old and a minimum of 3′ 2″ tall, and must be no taller than the driver’s shoulders. No upper height limit on single riders.

What if I have a bad back? The Pipe isn’t recommended for people with existing neck or back injuries, or people who don’t have the dexterity or grip strength to operate the brake. It is also not recommended for pregnant women as the seat belt is secured tightly across the hips.

Dogs may not join you on the Coaster, or in the line-up, but your furry friends are more than welcome if supervised and on-leash on the Upper Village grounds.

When is the Canyon Coaster Open?

The Canyon Coaster in open May 20th 2023 – Oct 8 2023 and closed in the winter.

May 20th -June 29th: It is Open Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays

June 30th-Sept 4: OPEN EVERYDAY – EXCEPT AUG 31

Sept 9 – Oct 8: It is Open Saturdays/Sundays

How to buy tickets for the Canyon Coaster

Tickets can be purchased online HERE.

Walk-ups may be purchased at the Upper Village lodge when available, though we sell out many days. 

An account will be required to complete your purchase, but each rider does not need to be registered for. Example: one person can purchase a set of 4 tickets for their family without having to register all 4 family members.

You will receive an email with a receipt/confirmation which will be used as your ticket for entry to the coaster.

The coaster ticket times are when riders may enter the line-up to take their turn on the coaster. Guests may not enter line up until their scheduled ticket time. Late guests will be accepted until the end of their scheduled day.

If you have not pre-purchased your tickets online there may be a chance to purchase a walk-up ticket (depending on availability).

Please note that during peak times and especially weekends a line up of approx 1 hour should be anticipated.

How to redeem tickets for the Canyon Coaster

You will be emailed a copy of your online order which includes your Coaster Ticket barcodes. Please ensure you have this email or photo saved to scan at the Coaster Gate. Free Tiny Tiger tickets (ages 3-5) must be collected at the ticket window located by the Tube Park before heading over into the Coaster Lineup.

Tickets are only for the day and time purchased. Late arrivals will have to wait in standby for next available time. Unused tickets from previous days will not be accepted.

What about bad weather?

The coaster can operate in light rain, but cannot operate in storms and heavy rain. In the event of closure due to heavy rain at the resort (not where you are coming from), your tickets will be credited to use at any future time (no expiry). You will receive a confirmation email showing the credits. To rebook, please reply to this email with a new date and time.

Do you offer group discounts?

We do offer a Private Coaster Party rental which is $2,000/hour for up to 100 rides. Contact events@canyonski.ca to book your private party.

What can I expect in the Upper Village Lodge?

Our new Upper Village Lodge offers tickets, food and beverage service and washrooms.

Order by scanning the QR code posted on signs in our Upper Village. Or in person at the cafe window. 

Food Menu:

  • 6oz Homemade Beef Burger
  • Grilled Polish Sausage
  • Canyons Famous Poutine
  • Caesar Salad (with chicken option)
  • Canyon Tale Dessert (available in: Cinnamon Sugar with Lemon, Nutella with Strawberry, or Nutella with Banana)

Can I bring a camera with me on the ride?

Handheld devices including phones and action cameras are not permitted. If you wish to use an action camera, you must use a chest harness or headmount.

We do have a camera that takes a photo of every passenger going down the ride. Photos may be purchased after exiting the ride at the photo kiosks.

  • Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, no refunds will be permitted.
  • Tickets are only for the day + time purchased. Late arrivals will have to wait in standby for next available time. Unused tickets from previous days will not be accepted.
  • Every user rides this sports facility at their own risk. The passenger is responsible for his/her riding behaviour. In particular, the user must always ensure that the speed and clearance to others are adapted to the conditions.
  • To ride alone you must be 8 years of age or older, and 4′ 1″ or taller. Maximum weight capacity per cart is 260lbs. Minimum of 16 years of age to ride with a passenger in the cart. Passengers must be 3 to 12 years old and a minimum of 3′ 2″ tall. Passengers must be no taller than the driver’s shoulders. No upper height limit on single riders.
  • Loose clothing (belts, scarves and shoelaces, etc.) and long hair (braids) must be kept away from the track and wheels.
  • Riders must wear seatbelts at all times and keep their arms and legs within the cart. Leaning out or stretching arms and legs out of the toboggan is prohibited. Do not touch the track.
  • Animals or umbrellas, walking sticks and other bulky, pointed or loose objects may not be taken onto the coaster.
  • People under the influence of intoxicants (alcohol, drugs and sensory influencing drugs, etc.) are not allowed to use the system.
  • Smoking is prohibited during the ride.
  • Accidents must be reported immediately to the operating personnel.
  • Handheld devices including phones and action cameras are not permitted. If you wish to use an action camera, you must use a chest harness or headmount.
  • A maximum speed of 40km/h will be managed by a push to go forward brake and a centrifugal brake.
  • Riders must have sufficient physical dexterity, ability and knowledge to safely load, ride and unload the coaster.
  • People who cannot properly operate the toboggan due to physical or mental limitations, etc. are not allowed to use the ride, except when accompanied by a specialist or someone they trust who assumes responsibility for it.
  • The Coaster may need to be suspended temporarily or closed during any rain, thunderstorms, lightning or high winds. The Coaster will reopen as soon as safe operations can be assured.
  • Carts are not to stop or come into contact while on the track. Riders must keep a minimum distance of 40m away from other carts.
  • The Coaster is not recommended for pregnant women and those with pre-existing neck or back injuries.
