Come soar down the Luge track as you weave in and out of the ski slope and forest trails on the Brand New Canyon Alpine Coaster! This Coaster reaches over 1300 meters in length with a total 440 foot vertical drop!
Using their own brake Riders can control their speed and safely reach up to 40 km per hour winding down the twists and turns of the track down into the Canyon! This awesome summer attraction is fun for all ages and physical capabilities – young tots 3+ can join in the fun by riding along as a passenger with a responsible person aged 16+!
Canyon Ski Resort is Alberta’s Largest Non-Mountain family ski area! With 80 acres of skiable terrain, 23 runs, and 6 lifts, Canyon is the best thing to do in Red Deer in the winter! Our resort offers a Terrain Park, Snow Tube Park, a rustic lodge, cafeteria, and cozy lounge. A day at Canyon is sure to be fun for everyone.
Our two chair lifts, two T-bars and magic carpet can transport over 5,000 people per hour, so you can maximize your runs in the day. Canyon‘s vast snow-making system which covers 95% of the area gives you a jump on the season and ensures great conditions throughout the winter.

•Tentative opening date: Saturday, June 25, 2022
•This Summer’s operating days/hours are expected to be Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 6pm (but could be adjusted based on demand)
•Set to be open from May long weekend to Thanksgiving
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥:
•Monorail track nearly 1.4km long
•Coaster will start at the top of the canyon and go down toward the Red Deer river
•Riders choose the speed – from a slow pace up to 40km/hour
•At the end, riders will remain seated and will be pulled back up the river valley via a t-bar lift

MAG staff were invited by former art curator and friend Pat Matheson on a hike to view the Hog’s Back on the Red Deer river. We have a painting in our collection called ‘Red Deer River Canyon’ by Don Frache (1919-1994) that shows this view. This painting was commissioned by Dr. and Mrs. Bannister and hung for several years in the Bannister’s living room. It was officially gifted to the museum at ceremonies dedicating the 1983 expansion held May 27, 1984.
Thank you Pat for taking us on this adventure! We hope to discover more local sites featured in our art collection this summer!

Many of our young athletes had the chance to experience a competition setting for their first time this season.
It’s amazing to see these kids overcome fear, mental blocks, stress and pressure as they work to put down their best run in front of their competitors and a crowd of spectators.
We’re so proud of the hard work these kids have put in and the growth they’ve shown over the season. We can’t wait to see what tricks they’re able to put down next winter!

Where it all started, back in middle school. Before I picked up skiing 5 years back, I was a ‘snowboarder’, if you could even call it that. I did my best and enjoyed being outside on the hill, with my friends! I joined my school ski club and every Thursday, over the Winter we would go to canyonskiresort. It is actually Alberta’s largest non-mountain resort, with 80 acres of skiable terrain, 23 runs, 2 chair lifts, 2 T-bars and magic carpet. It’s nice to have access to this resort, so close to home, without having to drive the few hours to the mountains. Charles had the best time staying westgateparkcity this past week! They had a snowy hill out back below the village area for him to go to the bathroom every day and he would join us for lunch breaks and post ski drinks at the fire pits in the village area.
Run-a-muk dog park was only 5 minutes down the road. We went almost every day before or after skiing Canyons to let him get some of his energy out.
